Pediatric Down Syndrome Clinic

The Pediatric Down Syndrome Clinic at Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children's Hospital is a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary clinic focused on the coordinated care and management of children with Down syndrome.

The clinic opened in 2013 and will supplement the routine medical care provided by the child’s primary care physician. Our goal is to support the family, ensure comprehensive care of the child, and support the Primary Pediatrician.

Developmental Pediatrics is joined by Genetics, Physical therapy, Occupational therapy and Speech therapy to provide a holistic and comprehensive evaluation of each patient. A virtual team of specialists is also available including, but not limited to, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry and Pulmonology.

Our Program Coordinator is dedicated to helping families coordinate their subspecialty medical needs, therapies, school services and community resources.

Robin Blitz, MD a developmental-behavioral pediatrician leads the Down Syndrome Clinic with Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

Clinic Appointments

Please note: Appointments are made by a referring pediatrician or family physician.

Down Syndrome Clinics are on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. Down Syndrome Clinic appointments generally take longer than a routine doctor's appointment. Due to the thorough evaluation by the team, an appointment may include appointments with PT, OT and Speech in the morning followed by a visit with Developmental Pediatrics and Genetics in the afternoon. In addition, your child may be referred to other specialists for further evaluation. All new patients need referrals from their Primary Care Physicians (PCP's). We want the PCP involved in all aspects of the child's care.

Please Bring the Following Information to Your Child's First Appointment:

  • Medical history form (English | Spanish)
  • Behavioral history form (English | Spanish)
  • Old medical records
  • School evaluation reports
  • Individualized Education Plans (IEP's)
  • Therapy reports
  • Genetic testing

If you can send this information to us ahead of time, all the better! All patient forms can be found here: Patient Forms. If possible please complete and either send forms to us beforehand or bring them with to your appointment. Forms can be faxed, emailed, or hand-deliver, if your appointment is soon. If it is a month away, you can also mail them. Please bring hard copies with you or confirm with Loren Begay, our administrative assistant, that the office has received your child's information.
