Therapy Options

The Psychiatry Division strives to provide an integrated model of care; combining medication management, family-based interventions and individual therapy. Psychiatry is currently entering a growth phase that includes the addition of therapists working closely and collaboratively with the psychiatrists in the ambulatory clinic.

Pharmacological and therapy interventions follow the most up to date, evidence-based interventions according to the literature and are available to our patients and families.

On the inpatient service, we strive to provide family centered care. We are implementing Collaborative Problem Solving strategies as a milieu therapy to address disruptive behavior on the unit.

Families are able to visit between the hours of 8 AM and 8 PM and are encouraged to be active members of the treatment team. We are in the process of implementing a comprehensive therapeutic group program on the unit, including:

  • The Incredible Years – small group therapy
  • Coping skills training groups
  • Dynamic play groups

On the consultation liaison service, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists work closely with the medical team to address the psychiatric needs of patients with medical illness. The psychiatrists also work very closely with the psychology consultation team to provide integrated care. In order to provide comprehensive support for the medical staff, the consultation-liaison staff is available to help guide effective treatment for patients with complex medical presentations.
